Life is full of boxes

We have finally unpacked. After having moved around for the last 7 months, we have finally found a spot, where we are able to stay for a while.
So we put all our stuff in a yellow bus and drove to Amsterdam.

Here in Oud-West we will live for the next few months and our next move will be our final one: May 2nd we get the keys to our home!
It has been a while since the last blog, somehow I could not find the words. In my head I had this idea about boxes that has been bugging me. It has been a recurring theme in our life these days.
How many memories can fit in a box? Our entire world possessions fit into 37 boxes. With every item unpacked, every bowl/ovendish, we got a little of our peace of mind and sense of self back, after moving around 10 times and living out of suitcases.
Clothes that we haven't seen in 7 months have all been washed and ironed with our new iron, so we can finally wear other clothes. Now we just need to wait for the weather to improve so we can wear them without freezing....

And we are missing a box. The box that has our wine cooler, with all the dents and memories from all the Sundays at the pool. At a certain point you start missing stuff and thinking oh, that probably was in the box too. That box is getting pretty huge by now.....
One big occurence these last few weeks, was the death of my friend Marieke's mom. She had been ill for a while, but losing a mother is something devastating, no matter how expected or how much of an escape from suffering it is, or how old you get. Seeing the family walk in the church, with the casket in the middle...How a life of a mother and all that entails can fit in just a wooded box....Makes me miss my mom even more. My little sister and I were talking about it, our mom has to give us at least 6 months notice before she passes, we need to write a letter to the Samenwerkende Fondsen, train the choir, make the decorations, bake a gazillion cupcakes and tie op a million balloons, so we need time to prep. My mom will put the Grim Reaper to work if he walks in on the Eve of a) VBS b) Mother's Day c) Christmas Celebration d)Easter....

That same week, I wanted to send my family in Curacao little things I have been saving up since I got here. When I used to live here before, my family would send over Party-in-a-box for special occasions. It's a way to send your love over the ocean. When you unpack, you can picture the person picking out stuff and putting them in the box (I can see my mom looking at the box and thing out loud: Falta un kos [there is something missing]....and then throwing handfulls of glitter or confetti in). So, family, I hope you like my hugs-in-a-box! And Pa, no glitter :o).
They are sending a box over too, nothing more fun than waiting for a box to arrive.
That all the boxes for now, if by any chance any of you are in Amsterdam, feel free to drop by! Give me an excuse to use my bowls......:oD
