Today is International Women’s day! I have had the pleasure to be able to spend some pretty amazing quality time with some of my favorite people in the world, which almost all happen to be women. Some who were there from the very beginning (When are you taking her back to the hospital where you got her?), some whose friendship has stood the test of time and distance and all bad hair decisions that come with that, and some freshly made friends right here in our new little world in Amstelveen.
My batteries feel like they have been supercharged and together with the weather that has been improving over the last few weeks, I feel like I am coming out of hibernation. During the many talks we have had, I have realized that I am not alone in my doubts and worries. Not only wisdom comes with age, life also throws you disappointments, regrets and a certain inability to wear low riding pants as you get more life experience. Why does this experience have to settle around your waist?
And in that realization, that I am not alone in sometimes feeling completely inadequate and at a loss to deal with what the universe has sent my way, I am finding strength. I hope that it has worked both ways. Even though some of us don’t have jobs (yeah, bye bye HEMA), or a clear direction in life, think that you can rely on the best resource available to mankind: your women.
So let the count-up begin! Instead of counting down to something, let us count each day that we decide to take better care of ourselves and the favorite people in our lives. Isn’t that the success of 12 step programs? One day at a time and we have got your back…
